Hanna Barbera 80s show at Carowinds
I worked in the entertainment department at Carowinds in the late 80s for two seasons. My two daily shows were at the old Sound Circus outdoor theater; it no longer exists, but was located where the carousel is now, in front of the monorail station (which is also gone…but that’s another story).
The first show we did each day was Hanna Barbera, featuring Yogi Bear, Fred Flintstone, Scooby, and others. The live band (drums, bass, guitar, keys) was backed up by orchestration on a reel to reel tape, which also had a track for the click that kept time in the band guys’ headphones. Singers danced, sang, and engaged the audience. The show was produced in Cincinnati at Kings Entertainment, which owned the park at that time. And the music was awesome!
The point of all this is that the other day I found my old recordings that I had made straight off the mixing board during one of the shows. Audio quality is rather mediocre, because it’s a live feed and then at least two generations of copies to get to what I had on the shelf. The pre-show instrumental was my favorite, so take a listen and enjoy!
